How I Tested the Best Curling Wand For Beach Waves?
With the help of our stylists, I tested the top curling wand for beach waves in the market. On a scale of 1-5 I’ve rated these wands based on the following parameters:
- Barrel size: The barrel size will determine the tightness of your curls. So for loose, beachy waves, a size of 1-2 inch diameter is the best.
- Plate material: Ceramic, tourmaline, and titanium are the most commonly used plate materials. Some curling wands will have an alloy of ceramic and tourmaline.
Ceramic is a good material for adding shine and protecting hair from damage, tourmaline suits brittle hair and prevents frizz.
- Price: A good curling wand for beach waves should obviously not leave a dent on your pocket. I’ve also looked at products that are multipurpose and save you money.
- Temperature settings: 325-degree F is considered the optimum temperature for heat styling tools.
But I like when products have multiple settings from low-to-high, so you can use it according to your needs and thickness of your hair.
- Accessories: Some products come with accessories like detachable heads, serums, hair comb, and the like. All these add value for money.

Hot Tools Professional Curling Wand
I had heard a lot of influencers talking about the Hot Tools curling iron, so I simply had to try it out. And honestly, this one was a mixed bag for me!
At first glance I really liked the sleek looking curling wand as it seems like professional grade appliance and a lovely gold-plates exterior.
What I also liked about this curling wand is that the barrel here is 1.25 inches in width which is perfect for those who want something easy to use around the head and create constant texture throughout.
It consists of a 24K gold coating on the plates which gets heated very quickly and stays hot. The thermal conductivity of gold is actually higher than titanium. So you can imagine!
If you're using this curling wand at a lower temperature than all is well and good. But if you turn up the heat, and have fine thin hair, then RIP. It will straight up burn your locks up!
Yep, it's that powerful.
I'd suggest going for this curling iron only if you have thick hair and always, and I mean always paying attention to the heat settings. If you have fine hair, please opt for a ceramic-based curling iron like the Conair one instead.
Pros:
- 24K gold surface gets heated quickly and retains heat for a long time
- Multiple heat settings let you use a lower temperature for fine hair
- 1.25 inch barrel is versatile enough to give you both curls and waves
Cons:
- The quick-heating gold surface can burn off hair if you're not careful
- The control dial can be easily moved by accident if you're careful
My Ratings:
- Barrel Size - 4.5/5
- Plate Materials - 3.5/5
- Temperature Settings - 3.5/5
- Price - 4/5
- Accessories - 4/5
Bed Head Beach Waves Curling Iron
Yes, yes. I know that technically this is a waver and not a curling wand. But isn't that we need right now? Something to give you beachy waves.
And I've always found that Bedhead offers you some really good hair appliances which work with all hair textures and length. So I wanted to give it a try.
And I'm glad I did actually because this is a really great product to create beachy waves. For one thing it's so easy to use.
You don't have to do the whole thing of wrapping hair around this tool the right way or whatever. Just press it on hair and voila, I was done!
I also liked that the technology that this curling wand comes in is a combination of ceramic and tourmaline which makes it all the more safe and effective.
The combination is also strong enough to create beach waves effortlessly and allows you to keep it intact.
A welcome break from the heat the 24K gold of Hot Tools wreaked on my hair!
And you know the best part? The 30 setting on the curling wand allows you to make sure to treat each hair type differently.
I have kind of thick hair, but even if you have fine hair, you can make the heat lower so that there’s not much exertion on the hair lest it breaks.
The curling wand is lightweight which makes it easier for you to carry it around when you are travelling. The auto shut off feature on the curling wand allows you to use it without the fear for safety.
The only con with this curling wand according to us is that the handle is a little too short which can be hard for some of us to grip onto.
Also I found that the waver won't really work well short hair due to the width of the barrels. So only use it if you've got long to medium length hair.
Pros:
- Less time consuming to use as it instantly creates waves
- Tourmaline ceramic plates ensure heat is distributed evenly through hair
- More than 30 heat settings makes it suitable for thin, thick, curly and even damaged hair
- Lightweight and comes with plate lock feature that makes it travel-friendly
Cons:
- Difficult to create waves on short hair
- The handle is a bit short so it can get difficult to maneuver
My Ratings:
- Barrel Size - 3.5/5
- Plate Materials - 4.5/5
- Temperature Settings - 5/5
- Price - 4.5/5
- Accessories - 4/5
Conair Tourmaline Ceramic Beach Waves Curling Wand
I tried out this Conair curling wand as I thought it just right for women with all hair lengths unlike the Tigi Bedhead waver that only works with long to medium hair.
What I really liked about this curling iron is that the material of the barrel is made up of mica which heats up faster than ceramic but less than metals like gold or titanium.
So if you want a powerful heating tool without the damage, this is a great choice!
The highest temperature this can go to is 400 F which is quite powerful to create solid waves for any hair type.
I also liked that there is an LED indicator on this curling wand which alerts you when it turns on and off.
On the downside, this curling wand is not dual voltage which can come as a disadvantage to many. So it's npt really travel friendly.
Also there are 3 diagonal silicione strips on the barrel. These help you wrap your hair in place while curling, but can also make it difficult to remove hair from the curling iron smoothly.
But perhaps the most disappointing thing about the curling iron was the accessories. What on earth is this half glove?
I'd rather there was no glove at all, because the one they gave along with the curling iron was ridiculous and not at all usable.
Pros:
- The raised silicone bumps on wand makes it easy to style hair by wrapping it in place
- The short barrel is good for short hair lengths
- Barrel width tapers from 1.25 inch to 0.75, so you get very natural beachy waves
- Tourmaline ceramic coating makes sure hair isn't heated too quickly or too much
Cons:
- While the silicone barrels make it easy to wrap hair around wand, they also make it difficult to slide curls off smoothly
- The "half-glove" is basically useless and a full one would have been much better
- The off button is placed very close to the temperature settings button and can be pressed accidentally while using
- Barrel length is short it's not suitable for long or medium-long hair
- No dual voltage feature so not travel friendly
My Ratings:
- Barrel Size - 5/5
- Plate Materials - 4.5/5
- Temperature Settings - 4/5
- Price - 4/5
- Accessories - 3/5
